✝️ Papal recall
Bournemouth vs Man United | Liverpool vs Spurs
IN-THE-INBOX: 2-MINS
If football is a religion — and it is to us — here are a couple of Pope-related stats to mark Francis’ passing:
± The last three times a Pope died (‘78, ‘05, ‘22), an English club won the Champions League.
± This year is also the first time a player called Pope (Nick) has ever won a domestic UK trophy (Carabao Cup).
🔜 Right, onto less moral matters… who are we backing this weekend in the Prem and FA Cup?

THE BIG FACTS

Pub Ammo
🔝 Liverpool would still be above Spurs and Man United if they had stopped playing in December.
🇧🇷 Gabriel Martinelli hasn’t lost any of the 44 games across any competition where he has scored for Arsenal.
🇫🇷 Since Oliver Glasner joined Crystal Palace, only Isak (32), Haaland (31) and Salah (30) have more Premier League goals than Jean-Phillipe Mateta (27).
🫣 Man Utd have lost eight Premier League games at home this season, more defeats at Old Trafford than they’ve ever suffered in a single campaign.
🇸🇳 Nicolas Jackson has scored just 23 goals from 32.68(xG) in the Premier League since joining Chelsea. He’s also one of only three players in Europe’s top five leagues to have 25+ shots but not scored since January.
🐐 Only Kane (213), Agüero (184) and Henry (175) have scored more goals for one Premier League club than Jamie Vardy has for Leicester (143).

THE BIG OPINION

Forest out of the woods
Pos | Team | W | D | L | Pts |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
3 | Man City | 18 | 7 | 9 | 61 |
4 | Forest | 18 | 6 | 9 | 60 |
5 | Newcastle | 18 | 5 | 10 | 59 |
6 | Chelsea | 17 | 6 | 10 | 57 |
7 | Aston Villa | 16 | 9 | 9 | 57 |
The race for the top five is all we have left — and it's quite something.
Five teams, separated by just four points — the tightest gap ever between 3rd and 7th in Premier League history — means every match from here is a Cup Final. And there's a case to be made for every one of them finishing in the top five and qualifying for the Champions League.
The Opta Supercomputer suggests 66 points will be the magic number, with Chelsea and Villa (both on 57) facing the most uphill battle.
But a quick glance at the fixture list should clarify things.
Man City are firmly in control. With the easiest remaining fixtures and the best starting XI, they're surely banking that top-five finish.
Chelsea, on the other hand, face Everton, Liverpool, Newcastle, Man United, and Forest. They will struggle for three wins.
So, we’re left with a three-way fight for two spots: Newcastle, Forest, and Villa.
Newcastle have arguably been the most in-form team, even after their horrible defeat to Villa. We’re still hot on their chances.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa have just four matches left to secure their place, and that gutting late loss to City could well have been the final blow to their Champions League hopes.
Which brings us to Forest. In one of the Premier League’s most remarkable stories of recent years — bettered only by Leicester’s 2015/16 miracle — Forest have defied the odds.
Tipped by many for relegation, they’ve been an almost ever-present in the top four. Out of their five remaining games, four sides have nothing meaningful to play for, including a Leicester team in freefall.
By the time they meet Chelsea on the final day, it might actually be The Blues who need a win more than Forest, with Nuno’s men safe and sound.

THE BIG FANTASY

Buys and Sels
Our team is now ~260,000th – last week was a complete “Saka sh**”.
______
Four teams play their FA Cup fixtures this week but crucially Forest’s game next Thursday DOES fall within this week’s Gameweek – despite playing City in the FA Cup this weekend. The same does not apply for the other semi-finalists City, Villa or Palace.
With GK Mats Sels chasing a Golden Glove and Anthony Elanga — who has 5 G/A in his last five appearances — in red hot form, we’re backing Forest to fulfil their season dream.
Big Six picks
✅ Isak £9.5m (Captain)
✅ Sels £4.8m
✅ Elanga £4.5m
THE BIG QUOTE
“But the motivation? Sorry we were s***. I’m very angry.”
To try and put into context just how shit West Ham have been all season, this 2’12 outburst from Fullkrug is, by quite some distance, the highlight of our entire season.
