A topic we revisit every year: The Player Of The Season and Young Player Of The Season awards.

Otherwise knows as POTS and YPOTS.

And there’s always that age old debate around who should win what.

And if you’ll excuse the pun, we are of course referring to the ‘age criteria’.

While they seem to have finally managed to create two entirely different lists (ie not one player is nominated for both POTS and the YPOTS), they have somehow contrived to put a 24-year-old in the YPOTS shortlist: William Saliba.

A man who has just completed his THIRD full season at Arsenal, off the back of FOUR seasons in Ligue Un.

And wait for it: he’s already won a Player Of The Season award… for Marseille… in 2022!

Young in real life? Maybe. Young in football terms? Nooo.

Meanwhile, the person Neville and Carragher have put forward as their choice actually happens to sit next to Saliba in defence: Myles Lewis-Skelly.

A 17-year-old whose debut was only in September last year. Now, that’s more like it.

But if we’re being honest, the real answer is Morgan Rogers. With 8 goals and 9 assists, he’s been the surprise package, helping Villa to remain unbeaten at home since August.

And if we’re being really really honest: scrap the awards.
