🛡️ Just one of the last 14 winners of the Community Shield has gone on to win the Premier League. Title favourites Liverpool lost to Palace last week.

😈 Arsenal have only won at Old Trafford in the League twice since 2002, while United have the best opening day record in the Premier League (winning 66.7% of matches).

⬇️ All three promoted sides have been relegated for the last two seasons. Good luck to Burnley, Leeds and Sunderland.

👑 Mo Salah has scored nine goals on the Premier League’s opening weekend, more than any other player. He’s also scored 11 in 11 games vs tonight’s opponents Bournemouth.

🏟️ Aston Villa are unbeaten in their last 21 home games, and have beaten Newcastle in five of the past six PL games at Villa Park.

👕 Man City have won their opening PL game in 13 of the last 14 seasons, losing to Spurs in 2021. That loss was their only ‘August defeat’ in their last 31 games.

THE BIG FUNNIES

Pre-season stuff…

🇰🇷 Off Targett. Newcastle flew back from South Korea without realising their left-back had been, err, left back, in Seoul. Not a great Korea move from Matt Targett.

📺 Caban Fever. During Arsenal vs Villarreal, the BBC match writer referred to the end of the game as “this meaningless shootout” and that he couldn’t “be bothered looking to see what his name is”. Poor Pau Cabanes.

🍹 Sam Tropez! Big Sam Allardyce, Tony Pulis and Alan Pardew were all spotted on holiday together. Weird.
